Apartment Review
So glad we are moving
Review Date: 3/20/2009 Reviewer: Anonymous
My husband and I were excited to move in to our first apartment as married people. Our families said it wasn't a good idea but we were excited about the space for the price. We moved in and it has been hell (and that is the nicest word I can think of). Sandpiper is a total joke. We luckily have quiet neighbors but we didn’t always. If you and your neighbors are quiet you will like it here as far as the walls go. If they are not quiet it is a whole different experience. Well so we were excited to have our own yard and to have a small patio. I can tell you that any of the brown apartments are crap! I can tell you that my bathroom is rotting and they just keep painting over it. Saying that it is just a little water damage and that it will dry up. If I press the wall it crumbles but it looks like part of it stays firm because of all the many coats of paint that was put on it. We had a whole in our kitchen ceiling and they didn’t fix it, didn’t fix it. So once I called an attorney and left them a message of you have 48 hours or I will get an attorney involved kind of thing they came and looked at it and told us that the paint guy would be there in the next couple of days. Well when the paint guy didn’t show up for two weeks we went back to our normal routine. Well that morning I had asked my husband to grab the dry-cleaning and put it in the kitchen so I could grab it on my way out the door and take it on over. Well I was running late that morning and left it sitting over a chair at the table. Well that was the day the paint guy came and $1600.00 in suits were ruined. I had some wedding pictures on a wine rack that I was going thru that got paint all over the pictures. I had paint everywhere and there reply is don’t you have insurance and I said yes but are you going to pay my deductible. Oh and talking about insurance If anything happens to the building you are responsible such as if your neighbor burns the apartment down you are responsible for your half of the building. I don’t know if they don’t have insurance or what but it is a joke. Then they had to gut our master bathroom because of "our lack of reporting maintenance issues” yet we submitted about 10 work orders for this thing. Well so over the course of 2 months it was retiled by some outside company. Well the outside guy they got stole my wedding rings and when I called the cops to have them come do a work up so I could get them replaced thru insurance. I was told by the police that they have to get permission by the owners and that they were told they could not enter the property. SO, at this point I am out $2600.00 in rings on top of everything else. Oh it gets worse. So they go to raise our rent again and let me tell you it rises every year without fail and if you are on a month to month it gets raised a minimum of every 6 months. I know ours goes up about every 3 months. So I said we moved in at 790 and in three years it has gone up to 940 forget it we are moving. So we did some hunting and found a place. Well we did the application didn’t think anything would go wrong well sandpiper supposedly had a ton of complaints about us. so we were denied from apartment to apartment. Yet when we moved in we asked about issues if they would be addressed if anything came up and they said they will stop by and tell you and then if people complain from there that they will give us written warning. Well according to them all of our neighbors hate us. They complained that we have boxes packed but we keep trying to move and they always get in the way. I being close to my neighbors asked them if we are a problem and they said no that the only thing they could think of is, if I am working out the apartment shakes. But it is the same with them. I hear my neighbor’s kids running thru the apartment and it shakes when they do that and there kids are like 2 and 4. So no biggy you deal. It is coming in to spring and there are still leaves from fall all over the place. It is a joke. There lawn care guys weed wacked thru things like my neighbors had just bought a kiddy pool last summer a little plastic one and they weed wacked thru it. They also weed wacked thru some planters of mine. The complex is horrible. I had a neighbor who moved in for a few months while going thru a divorce and when he moved out they charged him for finger prints on the dish washer. Most land lords as long as there is not an over abundance of mess they are fine. Sandpiper does not give you leway on normal were and tare. If you move in a tip bring up all your fixes when maintenance shows up. I have noticed that the maintenance guys keep leaving. I had one that my husband and I got close to. Dean was the only good maintenance guy but the rest are a joke. Devin is the head of maintenance and he will make you feel like you have no clue what you are talking about. If you ask him questions like the wall ripples from water damage. I think there is mold can we fix that? I got well if you would have told us sooner nothing would have happened but we will fix it when you move out. This said to me I need to move out. I currently have a bubble in my master bedroom from water damage and maintenance comes in a looks and says well if it gets bigger let us know otherwise it is fine. Lol it gets bigger and every time they come well if it gets bigger let us know and then we will fix it. If you are in the brown ones trust me there are a lot of things you don’t see that is wrong. Also I found out from almost every one that left before me most are charged a minimum of $300.00 cleaning fee when they leave for things like finger prints on the dish washer. Luckily I was prepared so now that we are moving out I have an attorney coming to deal with them once we leave. I am so FED up with them. Oh and when we told them we were leaving they said that it was sad to see us go because we were such good tenants. LOL Also when I asked about the complaints they said there have never been any and that I was a wonderful tenant. I sat there thinking why you would not tell that to the million apartments we have applied at over the year. Well after a year of looking we can finely find a new place to live. If you are looking to leave be honest with you’re soon to be landlords and some will work with you. Some you just mention sandpiper and they know. It is a rundown apartment complex and the features that were nice were that you could have a dog, you can’t now. Also, they will try to hold you to things you haven’t signed. For example if you don’t turn in your rent by midnight on the 1st then you can get up to a 200.00 late fee. Well I know my manager doesn’t stay up till midnight and I had a neighbor that was working dropped it off on the first that night and still got a fee because management didn’t check the box. It is a joke. I have so many horror stories that I could go on for hours. One thing to keep in mind gas is expensive. The windows are so bad that if you stand next to a window you can feel the hot air leaving. And if you go outside the windows you can put your hand by them and feel the heat escape. So be aware that these apartments are worse than buying in to some scam. Hope this helps you decide not to move here. oh one last thing there was a shooting here in 2008. They don't talk about it but crap like that happends here. |
