Apartment Review for The Fairstone @ Riverview - Salt Lake City, UT

We moved in to this complex in June of 2009 because 1. I thought they looked promising 2. They were running a "special" and 3. Because their leasing office was open late so my husband could come view the place after work. We didn't think it was so bad when we first moved in, just a couple small issues. Like, we didn't find out until we moved in that the storage unit on the balcony was off limits, and they don't provide you a complimentary parking space. Well, they do, but not a covered space. There are a total of (4) covered spaces in front of our building that houses 24 apartments. That seems to be the norm here, 4 covered spaces for every 24 homes. Our "rent" is $699 a month, but with the amount you're charged for your water, sewage, trash and gas it ends up being a lot more, and at first that was understandable. The more water and gas you use, the more you pay. This month our rent is $795. And the real kicker is, our apartment is a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, 724 sq. foot place. $795 is apparently the "normal market rate" for our size apartment in this complex, so if I hadn't got the special we'd be paying close to $900 for rent. I wouldn't mind that if I had a storage unit and some more space. Anyways, yes, I know, it was our choice and we didn't do very good homework. There was also, literally, a week and a half ago, a robbery in the building next to ours. Its just not worth the money to live in this place. Take my advice and keep looking for a safer, and more appropriately priced place.
